About
Also known as: Rugurgitator, リガージテーター
Regurgitator took a pretty unusual route for a Brisbane band signed to a major label: they flew to Bangkok to make their debut album on a small budget at a famed pop studio. The result, Tu Plang, mixed rock and hip hop with dabbles in techno, surf rock and dub, and it landed at number 3 on the ARIA charts. Quan Yeomans' cynical, obscene lyrics caused a stir too, with one track drawing fire from radio host Alan Jones. Then they swerved again. Unit, recorded in a Brisbane warehouse they called The Dirty Room, went electronic and poppy, even opening with a song titled "I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff". It went triple platinum and won five ARIA awards in 1998, and gave them tracks like "Polyester Girl" and "Black Bugs". Since leaving their major label they have gone fully independent, making albums in Rio de Janeiro and a Hong Kong apartment, plus a kids' music spin off, Regurgitator's Pogogo Show. Their ninth album Headroxx came in 2018, followed by Invader in 2024.
