About
Rhys Lewis made a bold choice with his 2020 debut album Things I Chose to Remember: he recorded the whole thing on analogue tape, a decision that forced every instrument and vocal to earn its place. The Oxford singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist is signed to Decca Records, and his sound draws heavily on soul and blues, with critics consistently picking up on those influences. His songwriting hero is Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner, the first writer of his generation, Lewis says, who made lyrics genuinely jump out at him, though Bill Withers is in the mix too. Heartbreak runs through a lot of his work, from tracks like Be Your Man and Hurting to No Right To Love You, a song he finds difficult to perform because the emotion still catches him off guard. His second album Corner of the Sky arrived in January 2023, and he has kept busy since, with new music including Stranger and Slowest Way To Drown landing in 2025.
