Richard Durand, the stage name of Amsterdam's Richard van Schooneveld, built his reputation in trance by doing something most producers only dream about: getting Tiësto to champion his work. Early bootlegs of tracks by The Prodigy and Snow Patrol caught fire across the DJ circuit, landing his music in sets by Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk and Ferry Corsten before he had even released a proper album. His real name is rarely spoken; the Durand alias is what stuck. His debut album Always the Sun arrived in 2009 on Magik Muzik and Black Hole Recordings, followed by Wide Awake in 2011 and Richard Durand Versus the World in 2012. Along the way he took over the celebrated In Search of Sunrise mix series for several consecutive volumes, covering destinations from South Africa to Las Vegas. His sound sits firmly in the tech trance corner, detailed and driving without losing sight of the dancefloor.
