About

Robert Henke is one of those rare people who helped build the tools the rest of the electronic music world uses every day: he co created Ableton Live with Gerhard Behles. Since 1995 he has also made music as Monolake, a project the two founded together, with albums like Hongkong, Cinemascope, Momentum, Silence and Ghosts along the way, plus a run of solo records under his own name. The German artist, based in Berlin, comes from an engineering background, and it shows. He loves technical objects, builds his own instruments and algorithms, and shapes computer generated sound, field recordings, images and light with mathematical rules and controlled randomness. In recent years he has been pushing into high power lasers for his installations and performances. His work has shown up at Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou and MUDAM Luxembourg, and he teaches and lectures on sound and computers at institutions including Stanford's CCRMA.
