About
Robin Scherpen is a Dutch guitarist and composer whose work sits in the territory often labelled neo classical, though the music speaks for itself without needing the tag. His compositions have appeared on Deutsche Grammophon, and he has performed in major concert halls across the Netherlands. His live show Memory and Traces opens in complete darkness, the first notes arriving before the audience has anything visual to hold onto. That choice is deliberate: Scherpen treats darkness as the actual birthplace of his music, a space that pulls listeners into something close to a state of not thinking. The guitar shifts between fragile and hypnotic, threading together personal memories, images and reflections into something that builds, slowly, toward the light.
