About
Also known as: Robin Leonard Trower, Robin Prower
Robin Trower is the guitarist critics love to compare to Jimi Hendrix, and he's never really run from it. He cut his teeth in Procol Harum from 1967 to 1971, appearing on their first five albums and writing "Whisky Train" for the album Home. But he kept coming up with more ideas than the band had room for, so he left and built his own power trio, the Robin Trower Band, with James Dewar on bass and vocals. That plan paid off fast. Bridge of Sighs arrived in 1974, and he went on to score four straight gold albums between 1974 and 1977 in the US and Canada. Things went quiet in the 1980s, though he teamed up with ex Cream bassist Jack Bruce for a run of albums, a partnership that returned for Seven Moons in 2007. He's still releasing records, from Closer to the Day in 2019 to No More Worlds to Conquer in 2022 and Joyful Sky with Sari Schorr in 2023. Robert Fripp has praised his string bending and even took lessons from him.
