Roël Calister is a composer and percussionist from Curaçao whose work sits at the crossroads of Afro Caribbean tradition and contemporary sound. Leading the Roël Calister Ensemble, he weaves together Afro Curaçaoan drums and authentic Tambu rhythms with melancholic strings and modern influences, creating music that feels both rooted and alive. The ensemble's project The Work of Songs explores how resilience and comfort can bring people together, framing that idea through vivid, emotionally charged pieces. Calister also leads KUENTA, a festival band that has performed at major events including Glastonbury and Mysteryland. Across both projects, his gift is the same: blending distinct musical traditions into something cohesive and genuinely moving.
