About
Named after a piece of dialogue in the 1997 film L.A. Confidential, Sheffield's Rolo Tomassi have built a reputation on controlled chaos since forming in 2005. Their sound pulls from mathcore, post hardcore, grindcore and experimental rock, with vocalist Eva Korman trading brutal screams against her brother James Spence's keys and arrangements. The band's strong DIY ethic shaped them early, from hand stamped demo CDs sold at local gigs to starting their own label, Destination Moon. Their second album Cosmology came about in an unlikely way: producer Diplo spotted them at South by Southwest, and instead of doing a remix, offered to produce the whole record. The resulting album showed real growth in Eva's vocals, with Diplo drawing on his experience working with artists like M.I.A. and Santigold. Since then Rolo Tomassi have kept pushing forward, releasing Grievances and Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It on Holy Roar, before their sixth album Where Myth Becomes Memory arrived in 2022 on MNRK Heavy.
