About
Also known as: Rubblebucket Orchestra
Rubblebucket built their reputation on a sound that defies easy categorization: psychedelic indie rock tangled up with upbeat dance grooves and horn arrangements that feel genuinely unruly. The Brooklyn band, anchored by singer and saxophonist Kalmia Traver and trumpeter Alex Toth, earned early buzz when Spin named them a must hear act at the 2009 CMJs, and their raucous live energy became their calling card. Their Triangular Daisies EP featured a Beatles cover that Paste put on its list of 50 Greatest Beatles Covers of All Time, and their album Omega La La landed them a spot on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Through all of it, the band kept pushing forward even as circumstances got complicated. Traver was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while on tour, and the pair eventually separated as a couple while continuing as musical partners. Their 2018 album Sun Machine, released on Grand Jury Music, got the widest radio reach of their career, landing on full rotation at SiriusXMU. After solo detours, they reunited for Earth Worship in 2022 and followed it with Year of the Banana in 2024, inspired by a book of poetry Traver wrote in 2015.
