Rusko, the York born producer and DJ whose real name is Christopher Mercer, was one of the key figures who helped bring dubstep out of the UK underground and into a much wider conversation. Getting deep into the genre through the Leeds scene, he eventually linked up with Caspa and the Sub Soldiers label, and together they put out the FabricLive.37 mix in 2007 that became a touchstone for the era. His debut album O.M.G.! dropped in 2010, followed by Songs in 2012, and along the way he racked up collaborations with Cypress Hill, Damian Marley, and Bonnie McKee, plus remixes for everyone from Adele to The Prodigy. His path has not always been smooth. A public dispute with Mad Decent over his second album pushed him toward self releasing, and in 2017 he faced a gastric lymphoma diagnosis that sidelined him through much of that year. He got the all clear later in 2017 and returned to the stage in early 2018. Since then he has kept releasing, with output on labels like Deadbeats, Wakaan, and Monstercat, including the 1 Man Army EP in 2025.
