About
San Fermin is a Brooklyn collective built around composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig Leone, who weaves indie rock, pop, and classical music into densely layered, orchestral arrangements. The group typically performs as an eight piece, pairing guitars, keyboards, and drums with baritone saxophone, trumpet, and violin, and features alternating lead vocalists including Allen Tate and Claire Wellin. Their 2013 self titled debut on Downtown Records drew serious attention, with NPR calling it one of that year's most ambitious and moving records. Albums followed in 2015 with Jackrabbit and in 2017 with Belong, each refining their cinematic sound. Their double album The Cormorant I & II arrived in 2020, and their fifth studio album Arms, released in February 2024, strips things back considerably, trading some of the lush orchestration for a more intimate and personal feel.
