Sara Watkins has been shaping the progressive bluegrass and folk scene since she picked up a fiddle as a kid and co founded Nickel Creek with her brother Sean and mandolinist Chris Thile. The band put out five studio albums before a lengthy hiatus, during which Watkins stepped out on her own. Her self titled solo debut was produced by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, who she had first worked with on the Mutual Admiration Society project, and the follow up Sun Midnight Sun featured guest turns from Fiona Apple and Jackson Browne. She is far more than a fiddle player, though. Watkins also plays guitar, ukulele and percussion, and has lent her talents to a remarkably wide range of artists, from touring with The Decemberists to playing on John Mayer's Born and Raised and Phoebe Bridgers's Punisher. With her brother Sean she runs the loose, joyful Watkins Family Hour residency at the Largo in Los Angeles, and she has teamed up with Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O'Donovan in the folk trio I'm With Her.
