Saxyon

About

Saxyon Trio is a saxophone based chamber group that likes to take Russian classics and rework them for a small ensemble. Their programmes often circle around Modest Mussorgsky and Dmitri Shostakovich. A centrepiece is Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death, which the trio has arranged for their own line up. They also play Pictures at an Exhibition in a special arrangement by David Cristóbal Litago, and sometimes mix in Shostakovich's Preludes or a few movements from Bach's Musical Offering. So it's classical repertoire from very different eras, all filtered through a fresh instrumentation.
