Few bands have left a mark on hard rock quite like the Scorpions. Formed in Hannover in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker, they spent years refining a sound that would eventually sell over 100 million records worldwide. The classic lineup of Schenker, vocalist Klaus Meine, and lead guitarist Matthias Jabs drove a run of albums through the 1980s, including Blackout, Love at First Sting, and Crazy World, that stacked up platinum certifications and top ten chart positions on both sides of the Atlantic. Two songs from Love at First Sting define much of their legacy. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" became a stone cold rock anthem, while "Still Loving You" is widely regarded as one of the great rock ballads. Then there is "Wind of Change", a reflective track tied to the political upheaval in Eastern Europe in the late 1980s, which shifted over 14 million copies and stands as one of the best selling singles ever released. Their most recent studio album, Rock Believer, arrived in February 2022, proof that Schenker and Meine are far from done.
