About
Also known as: Severina Kojić, Severina Vučković
Few artists in the Balkan region have the kind of cultural weight that Severina carries. The Croatian singer from Split has built a catalogue of 12 studio albums blending pop, folk, jazz and dance into something immediately recognisable, and her songs have sat at the top of regional charts for decades. She represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens with "Moja štikla", finishing 12th, and that same visibility cemented her status well beyond Croatian borders. The Croatian weekly Nacional once called her "the only bona fide Croatian celebrity" and "Queen of Croatian music", and she is the only person in Croatia to rack up more than a billion views on YouTube. Severina is also an actress, with film, television and theatre credits alongside her music work. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Goran Bregović, Željko Bebek, Saša Matić and Bulgarian pop star Azis, and many of her biggest hits she wrote herself, among them "Djevojka sa sela", "Pogled ispod obrva" and "Adam i Seva". In 2015 she was the most searched person on Google in both Croatia and Slovenia, which says a lot about how deeply embedded she is in the culture.
