Shawn Colvin picked up a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album with her very first record, Steady On, back in 1989, but it was the 1997 single "Sunny Came Home" that turned her into a household name. That track spent four weeks at number one on the Adult Contemporary chart and swept the 1998 Grammys for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, a rare double for a folk leaning artist. She had also built a devoted live following through all three original runs of Lilith Fair, cementing her place in the 1990s singer songwriter scene. Her catalog stretches well beyond that breakthrough. All Fall Down, produced by Buddy Miller at his Nashville home studio, brought in Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and Jakob Dylan, and she followed it up with Uncovered (2015) and The Starlighter (2018). Along the way she has lent her voice to recordings by James Taylor, Béla Fleck and Bruce Hornsby, collaborated with Sting, recorded a full album with Steve Earle, and even voiced a recurring character on The Simpsons. A 2025 live appearance performing "The Boxer" alongside Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas at a Paul Simon tribute concert shows she is still very much in the mix.
