Few Indonesian bands have managed to pull off what Sheila on 7 did in the late 1990s and early 2000s: selling over a million copies of three consecutive albums in their home country alone, a feat no other Indonesian act had achieved before them. The Yogyakarta alternative rock outfit broke through with their self titled debut in 1999, quickly followed by Kisah Klasik Untuk Masa Depan and 07 Des, albums that turned them into household names across Indonesia and earned loyal fans in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Their total estimated sales now sit above eight million copies. Musically, the band tends toward upbeat, optimistic pop rock that captures the feeling of youth, and their style is so distinct that people simply call it "Sheila music." Rolling Stone Indonesia ranked their debut at number 33 on its list of the greatest Indonesian albums of all time, and their song "Dan" came in at number 29 on the greatest Indonesian songs list. More recently they put out the single "Memori Baik" in late 2024, featuring Aishameglio, the daughter of vocalist Duta.
