About
Also known as: シャイニー, 샤이니
Shinee got dubbed the "Princes of K pop", and the group has earned the title with a mix of tight vocals and ridiculously synchronized choreography. SM Entertainment put them together in 2008 as a contemporary R&B boy band, though they never stayed in one lane, bouncing through funk rock, hip hop and EDM. They won the Best Dance Performance award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards three times, for "Sherlock (Clue + Note)", "Dream Girl" and "View", and they are often called one of the best live vocal groups in K pop. Their first single "Replay" kicked things off in 2008, and "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" cemented them across Asia soon after. They even started a fashion trend among students that the media called the "Shinee Trend". They also cracked Japan, where the Japanese version of "Replay" sold over 100,000 copies, and they became the first Asian artists to perform at Abbey Road Studios in London. Today the group is Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin, following the death of Jonghyun in 2017.
