About
Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma has built a career performing with some of the world's leading orchestras, from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra to the Orchestre National de France. She picked up first prizes at the Benjamin Britten International Violin Competition and the Chinese International Violin Competition, and took a silver medal at the Indianapolis International Violin Competition, before going on to collaborate with conductors including Yannick Nézet Séguin and Jaap van Zweden. Her recording debut came with works by Edward Elgar for the Naxos label, partnered with pianist Yurie Miura, and she followed that up with a live recording of three Spohr violin concertos with Sinfonia Finlandia. A television documentary about her life as a musician, plus a celebrated performance of the Shostakovich First Violin Concerto broadcast on Dutch public television, helped cement her profile in her home country.
