Sister Sledge built their name on a run of records that still fill dance floors decades later. The Philadelphia group of four sisters, Debbie, Joni, Kim, and Kathy Sledge, hit their stride when Atlantic Records paired them with Chic's Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The result was the 1979 album We Are Family, a disco landmark that went platinum in the US and produced two chart toppers on the Hot Soul Singles chart: "He's the Greatest Dancer" and the anthemic title track. "We Are Family" later earned a spot in both the Grammy Hall of Fame and the National Recording Registry, which tells you everything about its cultural staying power. They kept the momentum going with Love Somebody Today in 1980 and scored again in 1985 when "Frankie" sat at the top of the UK Singles chart for four straight weeks. Over the years the group went through lineup changes and various incarnations, but their catalogue, more than 20 million records sold worldwide, speaks for itself. In 2017 they were inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame.
