Skinnie

About

Skinnie is a singer and composer from Sittard whose songs sit right at the intersection of joy and sorrow, finding warmth and dry humour in the everyday weight of life. His lyrics, partly in Limburgish dialect, touch on longing, resignation and the small consolations that keep people going. On one track he sings about wanting nothing more than to be left alone; on another, he insists that as long as there are flowers, he will keep looking, and if he can no longer see them, he will smell them instead. That mix of melancholy and stubborn optimism runs through virtually everything he writes. Musically he works with a tight four piece band built around a rhythm section of drummer Philip Kerkhofs and bassist Eric Coenen, with guitarist Tom Lanjouw alongside Skinnie himself on guitar and vocals. The sound is full and warm, clearly the work of seasoned players who know how to give a song room to breathe.
