About

Also known as: Janse Bagge Band, Jansse Bagge Bend

Janse Bagge Bend got their start as a carnival street band in Susteren, Limburg, before swapping the big drum for a proper kit and plugging in electric guitars. The switch paid off fast: their 1983 single "Sollicitere", built on the groove of Gimme Some Lovin' by the Spencer Davis Group but sung in Limburgish dialect, shot into the Dutch Top 10 and peaked at number 8. Radio play from Frits Spits helped spread the word, and over 40,000 copies sold was enough muscle to land them a slot at Pinkpop that same year. After that breakthrough JBB kept busy but on their own terms, never playing more than 25 shows a year and eventually trading the big festival tents for intimate venues where they could get close to the crowd. Their lyrics have always punched above their weight, tackling racism, unemployment, sexual abuse within the Catholic Church, and euthanasia alongside the lighter stuff. A live album followed in 2008, and in 2019 they marked 40 years together with a new record called "Veertig", released on CD, LP and even cassette.
