About
Also known as: Van Kampen
Founded in 1982 by Willem van Kruijsdijk and Mies Wilbrink, Slagerij van Kampen is a percussion group from Eindhoven that has spent more than four decades fusing drum traditions from cultures across the globe. Their sound draws heavily on the Burundi Drummers as a starting point, but they push far beyond any single influence, weaving together rhythms and textures from wildly different corners of the world. The result is a style entirely their own. Over the years that approach has earned them a Edison award, a gold record, and a golden ticket award, plus a performance for Nelson Mandela and an appearance at the Nationale Bevrijdingsconcert op de Amstel. Readers of the Slagwerkkrant have repeatedly voted them Best Percussion Group in the Benelux. Their shows balance sheer physical force with moments of quiet, intimate playing, letting individual instruments breathe inside what is otherwise a wall of rhythm.
