Slash Need came together in Toronto when Dusty Lee and Alex Low crossed paths at Double Double Land, an underground art and performance venue, and the band's name itself has a great origin story: Low texted "whatever you want slash need" in response to a list of name ideas, and Lee just ran with it. The duo, along with dancers Camille Jodoin Eng and Stella Tago, bring an electropunk energy to their live show, a concept inspired by old footage of The Hidden Cameras at Will Munro's legendary Vazaleen club night. Their debut album Sit & Grin dropped in 2025 after a run of festival appearances that included SXSW, Pop Montreal, and Lawnya Vawnya, plus a full European tour. The record earned a longlisting for the 2026 Polaris Music Prize, a strong first showing for a band still very much on the rise.
