About
Slechtvalk, Dutch for peregrine falcon, have been one of the more distinctive acts in Christian black metal since their debut album Falconry dropped in 2000. The Netherlands band blends black metal with folk and symphonic elements, and their third album At the Dawn of War earned a spot on HM Magazine's list of the 100 best Christian metal albums of all time. That same record also came bundled with a live DVD filmed at club Hedon Zwolle, showing how seriously they take the full live spectacle, complete with medieval warrior costumes. Over the years the lineup has shifted quite a bit, with soprano voices, folk guitarists and various keyboardists passing through, but founder Shamgar has kept the project moving. Their fifth album Where Wandering Shadows and Mists Collide arrived in late 2016, and after a longer gap they returned with At Death's Gate in 2024. A recent upload hinting at material under the name Aasgier suggests there may be more activity on the horizon too.
