About
Also known as: Slightly Stupid
Signed to Skunk Records by Sublime's Bradley Nowell while they were still in high school, Slightly Stoopid have been blurring genre lines since the mid 90s. The San Diego outfit pulls from reggae, punk, funk, hip hop, dub, and blues all at once, and somehow makes it cohere. Their 2005 album Closer to the Sun, which featured collaborations with Barrington Levy and Scientist, cracked the Billboard Top 200 and showed they could hang with reggae heavyweights. Chronchitis followed in 2007, debuting at number 55 on the Billboard 200. Live, they are a serious road band, having played Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and sold out shows across Australia, Japan, Europe, and beyond. They have shared stages with Damian Marley, Snoop Dogg, Dave Matthews Band, and Toots and the Maytals. A 2011 in studio session at Bob Weir's TRI Studios, recorded live alongside Karl Denson, Don Carlos, and Tommy Chong, stands out as one of their more remarkable moments on tape. More recently they linked up with Stick Figure and Pepper for the 2024 track Got Me On The Run.
