Few Canadian bands have stayed as consistent as Sloan, the Halifax born, Toronto based power pop outfit who have been releasing records since 1992 without ever changing their lineup. What sets them apart is their unusual democratic approach: all four members, guitarist Patrick Pentland, bassist Chris Murphy, guitarist Jay Ferguson, and drummer Andrew Scott, write songs and take turns on lead vocals, which keeps their sound fresh across fourteen studio albums. Their second album Twice Removed was famously buried by Geffen Records after the label disliked the direction, yet Spin still called it one of the best albums you didn't hear in 1994. The comeback record One Chord to Another sold over 80,000 copies in Canada and won them a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album. Their 2006 release Never Hear the End of It crammed 30 tracks onto a single record and earned widespread critical praise, cementing their reputation as one of Canada's most reliably inventive rock bands.
