About
Slow Fiction is a New York band whose self released debut album, dollhouse, is built around one tricky question: who are you in private, and who do you become once you know someone is watching? Across its eleven songs, the lyrics keep shifting perspective, mixing sharp observation with inward looking reflection. They linger on small hurts and the casual cruelty of other people, always hunting for a bit of clarity. The album opens with junior year, where singer Julia Vassallo asks who you are when nobody is looking back or looking through you. Over a cryptic bass line and guitars that splinter and build, the song pushes toward a release. That pairing of driving indie rock with songs that make you stop and think pretty much sums up the band.
