About
Swapmeet are an Adelaide indie rock four piece who came together in 2022, and their origin story alone is worth hearing. They originally played under the name Sour Sob until a cease and desist from a local musician called Soursob Bob forced a rebrand. The new name came from guitarist Maxwell Elphick buying his guitar at a swap meet, which feels perfectly on brand for a band who self recorded and mixed their debut EP, Oxalis, entirely on their own. Oxalis landed in April 2024 and swept the South Australian Music Awards, picking up Best Song for "Ceiling Fan" and Best Release while scoring nominations in three other categories. The folk rock influence of artists like Big Thief and Julia Jacklin runs through their sound, layered up with a production approach that stacks dozens, sometimes hundreds, of tracks. That combination caught the attention of Los Angeles label Winspear, who signed them as their first ever international act. Their debut album Mount Zero followed in 2026, recorded at a beach house in Noarlunga.
