About
Also known as: Snif 'N' the Tears, Sniff and the Tears, Sniff'n the Tears, Sniff'n' the Tears, Sniff'n'the Tears
Few songs have had a second life quite like 'Driver's Seat'. Sniff 'n' the Tears recorded it in 1978, saw it climb to No. 15 on the American Billboard Hot 100 in 1979, and then watched it rocket to the top of the Dutch chart in 1991 after it was used in a car audio commercial. The track got another boost when it turned up on the Boogie Nights soundtrack in 1997 and later in The Walking Dead. The band is essentially the ongoing project of singer and songwriter Paul Roberts, who has kept the name alive through several lineup changes since forming the group in the mid 1970s. The debut album Fickle Heart, released on pub rock label Chiswick Records, is the record that started it all, built around 'Driver's Seat' and its irresistible Moog solo from guest musician Keith Miller. After breaking up in 1983, Roberts revived the band following the Dutch chart success and has kept releasing music, from the multi instrumental Underground in 2001 through to Downstream in 2011 and Random Elements in 2017. Roberts plays and writes most of the material himself, and also creates the band's sleeve artwork.
