About
Sonico is a jazzy tango ensemble from Brussels with a mission: keeping the music of Argentine composer Eduardo Rovira (1925 to 1980) alive and audible. Rovira was, much like his compatriot Astor Piazzolla, a pioneer of avant garde tango, and both men pushed the form well past its traditional boundaries. Sonico brings together music from two landmark ensembles of that era, Piazzolla's Octeto Buenos Aires and Rovira's Octeto La Plata, groups that fundamentally reshaped what tango could sound like and permanently altered the identity of the genre. If you know Piazzolla but have never heard Rovira, this is a good place to start.
