Sophie Zelmani has a knack for understated songwriting that somehow ends up everywhere. The Stockholm born singer released her debut single "Always You" in 1995, and within two years her self titled album had moved 200,000 copies across Europe and Asia Pacific, eventually landing a US deal with Columbia Records. Her songs have a quiet persistence to them, which probably explains why "Stand By" made it into Independence Day and "Always You" into My Best Friend's Wedding, while she quietly racked up sync placements on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek too. She has always kept a low profile, making only a handful of public appearances due to shyness, but the music has a way of travelling without her. Faye Wong covered Zelmani's "Going Home" in both Mandarin and Cantonese on a 2003 album, and she even put her stamp on a Bob Dylan song with a cover of "Most of the Time" for the Masked and Anonymous soundtrack. Over the years she has kept recording albums at her own pace, staying true to her soft, introspective singer songwriter sound.
