Jakarta's Sore have been quietly building one of Indonesia's most distinctive catalogs since their 2005 debut Centralismo, an album so varied and richly textured that Time Magazine Asia named it one of the five Asian albums worth buying. What set them apart early on was their vintage instrumentation, vibraphones, mellotrons, horn sections, all evoking the feel of popular music from the 1950s through the 1970s, while each member took turns writing and singing lead. Their second album Ports of Lima landed in 2008 and topped Rolling Stone Indonesia's best album list that year. After losing key members, including principal songwriter Mondo Gascaro in 2012, they pushed into more experimental territory with Los Skut Leboys in 2015. Then in early 2023 they returned with Quo Vadis, SORE?, their first full release in eight years. The band suffered a heavy blow when founding member Ade Paloh passed away in March 2024, but Sore have chosen to carry on.
