State Faults from Santa Rosa, California have built a devoted following in the screamo and post hardcore world by making music that, as one Noisey writer put it, sounds like what a panic attack feels like. Their 2013 album Resonate/Desperate, released through No Sleep Records, is widely regarded as a landmark record, landing on Brooklyn Vegan's top 100 punk and emo albums of the 2010s and getting a nod from Noisey as one of the releases that best captures a decade of hardcore punk. Kerrang placed them at number 16 on their 50 Best American Hardcore Bands Right Now list in 2019. The band broke up in 2015 after a lineup change, with some members going on to form noise rock project Slow Bloom, but reformed in 2019 driven by renewed fan interest. Their sound pulls from a wide range of territory including black metal, shoegaze, post rock and mathcore, using dynamics as a core tool, swinging between ambient, reverb soaked passages and full on sonic chaos. Lyrically they dig into spirituality, the occult and emotional trauma. Their fourth album, Children of the Moon, arrived in 2024.
