About
STEPMOTHER is a rotating collective built around Rotterdam connected figures Lukas Simonis (known from Dull Schicksal, Bazip Zeehok and Coolhaven), Jeroen Visser (Kazanchis, morFrom) and British guitarist Bill Gilonis (The Work, The Hat Shoes, Hail). Their second album, "Bring Me Flowers and Tell Me You Love Me", arrived roughly ten years after their debut, partly because the members are scattered across different countries. The long gap was also down to something more specific: the band felt the new material needed a strong vocalist, a quality the first record could do without. Enter Tisa Neža Herlec, known as Tisa World, whose voice anchors the record. Drummer Philipp Ernsting (Albatre) rounds out the lineup. The music lands somewhere in post punk, prog rock and experimental territory, with nifty electronics, spiky guitars and spooky horn sections all in the mix. Lyrically the album wanders freely, touching on succulent plants, goblin markets and drunken gamblers. Live, Dirk Bruinsma (Blast, Pumporgan) steps in on bass in place of Gilonis. The record's artwork is by Alfred Boland.
