About
Also known as: Stephen Kendall Gadd
Few drummers have left fingerprints on as many iconic recordings as Steve Gadd. His groove on Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" is the stuff of textbooks, and the drum solo he unleashed at the end of Steely Dan's "Aja" has been dissected by players ever since, with its explosive tom runs and crisp cymbal work. He's played on sessions for Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, James Taylor, Paul McCartney, and dozens more across jazz, blues, soul, and rock. Gadd spent much of the 1990s and 2000s on the road with Clapton, including a run of eleven nights at the Royal Albert Hall in 2009. He also toured the globe in a trio with French jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani. More recently, he has been part of Blicher Hemmer Gadd, a soul jazz trio with Danish saxophonist Michael Blicher and organist Dan Hemmer, releasing four albums together. In 2021 he put his knowledge into print with Gaddiments, a book on drumming rudiments.
