Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Boots Riley of the Coup make for one of the more unlikely yet totally logical pairings in rock. Street Sweeper Social Club is their supergroup, built around Morello's riff heavy guitar work and Riley's sharp, politically charged rapping. The whole thing started taking shape during Morello's Nightwatchman tour, where Riley would join him onstage to play what became their debut single, "100 Little Curses". Their self titled debut album followed in June 2009, with drummer Stanton Moore helping lay down the tracks before a fuller touring lineup took over. The band opened for Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction on a major summer run, and also performed alongside Public Enemy at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. In 2010 they put out The Ghetto Blaster EP, a short but fun release featuring covers of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" and LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out". Riley has confirmed a second full album is in the works, so this particular social club is far from done.
