About
Also known as: Crushed Kid, London Suede, Svede, The London Suede, スウェード
Before Britpop had a name, Suede were already being called the best new band in Britain. The London act formed in 1989 around Brett Anderson and bassist Mat Osman, and their self titled 1993 debut shot straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest selling debut in nearly a decade and winning the Mercury Music Prize. Their follow up, Dog Man Star, was a turbulent affair that ended with guitarist Bernard Butler walking out, yet it has since earned a reputation as one of rock's great albums. The mid nineties Coming Up era brought their biggest commercial peak, with five top ten singles and their best selling record worldwide. Suede called it a day in 2003 but reunited in 2010, and the comeback turned out to be more than a nostalgia lap. Bloodsports, Night Thoughts, and The Blue Hour each landed well with critics and fans, with The Blue Hour becoming their first top five record since 1999. Their ninth album Autofiction arrived in 2022, and a tenth, Antidepressants, followed in 2025, showing no signs of slowing down.
