About
Sven Figee trained as a classical pianist but has long since expanded into organist, composer, bandleader and producer. He leads Sven Hammond and the Sven Hammond Big Band, the latter of which took a widely praised theatre tour built around the music of Ray Charles. On television, he serves as the resident pianist on the long running Dutch programme Podium Klassiek, where he has his own regular segment. Figee has also made a name for himself in film composition. He wrote the complete soundtrack for the nature documentary North Sea: Nature Untamed, known in Dutch as De Wilde Noordzee, which won a Gouden Kalf for most successful documentary in the Netherlands. His live sets draw on a broad palette, mixing his own compositions with film music and jazz standards.
