About
Taproot built their reputation on a blend of alternative metal and nu metal that hit hardest with "Poem", the lead single from their 2002 album Welcome. That track shot to No. 5 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and Welcome moved over 500,000 copies, making it the Ann Arbor band's commercial high point. Welcome was considered a step in a more melodic direction, debuting at No. 17 on the Billboard 200, and it came after solid groundwork laid by their Atlantic Records debut Gift, which got heavy MTV2 rotation and a slot on Ozzfest thanks in part to Jack Osbourne. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins co wrote material on their 2005 follow up Blue Sky Research, which produced "Calling", a track that became the theme song for WWE's pay per view Unforgiven that year and peaked at No. 11 on the Mainstream Rock chart. After Atlantic parted ways with the band in 2006, Taproot kept going independently, releasing records through 2012 and beyond. Their seventh album, SC\SSRS, arrived in 2023 and brought original drummer Jarrod Montague back into the fold alongside new guitarist Taylor Roberts.
