Telefon Tel Aviv started as a duo, Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis, out of New Orleans and Los Angeles, and their 2001 debut Fahrenheit Fair Enough landed them firmly in the IDM and glitch world with strong reviews right out of the gate. Their third album, Immolate Yourself, was a deliberate left turn: the pair ditched their usual software setup and went back to analog tape and synthesizers because they felt it sounded more real. It hit No. 17 on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart and showed a band willing to rewire their own sound. Cooper's death in January 2009 was ruled accidental, and Eustis has kept the project going solo ever since. He's stayed busy with collaborations and remixes for acts ranging from Deftones to Modeselektor, and the 2019 album Dreams Are Not Enough reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart.
