Teoman (TR)

About

Few Turkish artists have balanced rock credibility with mainstream appeal as consistently as Teoman. Born Fazlı Teoman Yakupoğlu in Istanbul, he built his reputation on acoustic rock songwriting, with tracks like Paramparça, Senden Önce Senden Sonra, and Papatya becoming genuine touchstones of Turkish pop and rock. Collaborators have included Turkish rock singer Özlem Tekin and Şebnem Ferah, both of whom have appeared on his recordings. His career has had some dramatic turns. He announced an indefinite retirement from music in 2011, only to return the following year. Since then he has kept a steady pace, releasing the album Eski Bir Rüya Uğruna in 2015 and continuing to put out new material well into the 2020s. He has also worked in film as an actor, director, writer, and composer, most notably on the 2005 project Balans ve Manevra, where he wore all those hats at once.
