About

Also known as: Be Good Tanyas

Few Canadian folk acts have managed to sound so effortlessly timeless as the Be Good Tanyas. The Vancouver trio of Frazey Ford, Samantha Parton, and Trish Klein weave folk, country, and bluegrass into something that critics have called alt country or Americana, recorded their debut Blue Horse in a run down shack on the outskirts of Vancouver, and somehow made that ramshackle setting feel exactly right. Their song "The Littlest Birds" reached a wide audience through the Showtime series Weeds, while their cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Waiting Around to Die" turned up in a memorable episode of Breaking Bad. The band has had its share of stops and starts, including a break from 2008 and a serious health scare for Parton in 2012. Through it all, the members have kept busy on their own terms. Ford has put out acclaimed solo work exploring soul music, and the Tanyas marked their return with A Collection in 2012, which included two new songs alongside highlights from their back catalogue. The group has also recorded at Bob Weir's TRI Studios, which is the kind of detour that says a lot about the company they keep.
