Few bands can claim their debut album helped coin a genre's name, but The Blues Magoos pulled it off with Psychedelic Lollipop in 1966, one of the first records to put the word 'psychedelic' right on the sleeve. Out of the Bronx, the group mixed garage rock grit with swirling organ tones and a restless energy that put them at the front of the psychedelic wave before most people even knew what to call it. Their biggest moment came with '(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet', which hit number 5 in the US and number 4 in Canada, and remains the track they are most associated with. They shared stages and tours with Herman's Hermits and The Who, appeared on American Bandstand and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and kept releasing records through 1970 before going their separate ways. After a long silence, the band came back with Psychedelic Resurrection in 2014, their first new album in 43 years, and in 2022 released what they called their final recording, 'Nowhere is Somewhere', which was featured at the Woodstock Film Festival.
