About
Staten Island's Budos Band operates in a sonic zone that's genuinely hard to pin down: AllMusic called them a "doom rock Afro soul big band with a '70s touch," and one press release compared them to Quentin Tarantino scoring a Bond film. That gives you a rough idea. Signed to Daptone Records since their 2005 debut, they've spent two decades blending Afrobeat, Ethiopian soul, psychedelia, and proto metal into sprawling instrumental records that don't sound like anyone else. Their 2014 album Burnt Offering pushed hard into heavy metal territory, and their 2019 comeback record earned a Kerrang! review calling it "cinematic yet menacing, the soundtrack to a bad drug trip in the desert in a blaxploitation flick." Their music has turned up everywhere from HBO's Entourage to the Hulu series The Bear, and an interpolation of their track "Aphasia" ended up in a Panic! At The Disco hit. Their seventh album, VII, arrived in 2025 on Diamond West Records.
