About
Also known as: The Coat Hangers
The Coathangers picked their name deliberately: it refers to a dangerous method of self induced abortion, and all three members are openly pro choice. That kind of fearless attitude runs straight through their music, a raw, loud blend of garage punk and indie rock that has earned them a devoted following since they formed in Atlanta in 2006. They built their reputation the old fashioned way, starting with house shows before graduating to headline tours across the US and Europe. Over six studio albums on Suicide Squeeze Records, they kept pushing their sound forward. Their 2014 record Suck My Shirt was their commercial and critical breakthrough, and 2016's Nosebleed Weekend cracked the Billboard 200. Along the way they toured with Refused, lent backing vocals to Mastodon's Once More 'Round the Sun, and dropped the sharp, punchy The Devil You Know in 2019. The band has three core members, each pulling double duty on vocals, giving them a chaotic, multi voiced energy that sets them apart.
