About
Also known as: The Dæd Wæther
The Dead Weather came together almost by accident. Jack White and Jack Lawrence were jamming with Alison Mosshart after she'd filled in on a couple of Raconteurs songs, Dean Fertita turned up at the studio, and a few weeks later they had a band. White took the drum stool, partly because playing lead guitar in yet another group felt redundant, and Mosshart became the frontwoman. Their writing method was a song or two a day, recorded on the fly with no time to overthink it. That speed shows on the debut Horehound, which landed in the US top ten in 2009, with singles like "Hang You from the Heavens" and "Treat Me Like Your Mother". Sea of Cowards followed in 2010, with White singing lead on the heavier, bluesier "Die by the Drop", and "Rolling in on a Burning Tire" ended up on the Twilight Eclipse soundtrack. After a quiet spell, the band dribbled out new songs on vinyl only through Third Man Records before collecting them on Dodge and Burn in 2015.
