About
The Fugitives built their name the hard way, setting the attendance record for Sacramento rock and roll shows at the 1964 Surfer's Convention before going on to open for the Rolling Stones, the Byrds, the Kinks, and the Beau Brummels. They were a fixture of the Davis and Sacramento music scene, known for high energy sets mixing originals with sharp covers of Beatles material and other top rock acts of the day. Their song "Blowin' My Mind", co written by Laramy Smith and Allen M. Purdy, ended up on the UK compilation The Sound of Young Sacramento, put together by Ace Records in 2000, and was later pressed onto a commemorative 45 rpm vinyl by the Sacramento Archives and Museum Collection Center in 2007. After the band broke up in late 1966, Smith went on to record with ex Byrd Gene Clark and later toured across sixteen countries over nearly three decades.
