About
Born out of Joe Perry's stormy exit from Aerosmith in 1979, the Joe Perry Project hit the ground running with a debut album, Let the Music Do the Talking, produced by longtime Aerosmith collaborator Jack Douglas. That record moved 250,000 copies in its first six months, a solid start for a band playing mostly smaller venues around Boston. Columbia Records, more interested in nudging Perry back to Aerosmith than in pushing his side act, made life difficult, and a revolving door of lineup changes and label drama eventually dissolved the band in 1984 when Perry rejoined Aerosmith. Perry has revived the Project multiple times over the years to keep busy during gaps in the Aerosmith schedule. The 2009 reformation brought back original bassist David Hull and toured behind the album Have Guitar, Will Travel, opening for Bad Company and Mötley Crüe. More recently, Perry has assembled a remarkable new lineup featuring Brad Whitford on guitar, Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes on vocals, and the rhythm section of Stone Temple Pilots, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz.
