About
The Kilkennys started out as a group of schoolmates who began touring Ireland in 1998, and by 2008 they had settled on their name, taken from their home city of Kilkenny. Their sound covers a wide stretch of Celtic folk territory, from delicate traditional ballads to the kind of high energy singalongs you'd expect from a packed Irish pub on a Friday night. The core of the band is Davey Cashin on vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar and whistles, Tommy Mackey on bass, acoustic guitar and vocals, and Mick Martin handling bodhrán, uilleann pipes, low whistles, guitar and vocals. Two more members, Davey Long and Jason Turk, joined the lineup from 2024 onward, expanding the group's musical range further. After more than 25 years of touring, they've built a reputation for shows that feel less like concerts and more like a genuine Irish pub session that somehow ended up in a theatre.
